Here at Helix House we are consistently wowed by the people we have working with us. From our account managers to the creatives, we have a really wonderful, diverse team. If you’ve spent any time on our Meet Our Team page you already have gotten an idea.
We wanted to delve deeper into our crew with an ongoing series of profiles and interviews. First up is Dan Chesin our Lead Advertising Specialist!
Dan is an Arizona native, born and raised in the Valley. Growing up with his older brother Matt, he always had a passion for basketball.
When he was 10 he broke his leg and wrote Shawn Marion (his favorite Suns player) and The Matrix himself sent back an autographed jersey! Though this didn’t start his love of sports memorabilia it certainly became a prized piece. (Whether or not this was during the stellar 2004-2005 season or rather lackluster 03-04 became the subject of much-heated debate in the office.)
Dan’s leg healed (and not for the last time) and he went on to study at Arizona State University where he double majored in Finance and Business Entrepreneurship with a minor in Economics. The man didn’t coast through with an English Lit degree *cough*.
We sat down with Dan last week and talked a bit about his upbringing, what he’s doing when he isn’t crushing Google Adwords campaigns at work, hint: he’s watching mind-bending movies like The Matrix, Mulholland Drive, Memento, and Primer and adding to his extensive collections of coins, stamps, and sports memorabilia.
Here is the random assortment of Q’s for which he provided the A’s:
Helix House: Who or what inspires you? Why?
Dan Chesin: My parents inspire me a lot because of their constant support and guidance.
I have also been inspired throughout my life by great athletes and musicians.
Athletes inspiring me by coming back from behind (overcoming the odds) and amazing performances willing their team to victory.
Musicians inspiring me through creative and powerful lyrics
HH: Anyone in particular of these groups?
DC: Shawn Marion. Growing up he was my favorite athlete on my favorite team (the Phoenix Suns). Cool story, I broke my leg when I was 10 and wrote him a letter and he sent back an autographed jersey. He recognized me when I attended a Phoenix Suns summer basketball camp a year later.
Musician – Kid Cudi. I find his lyrics inspiring and relatable.
HH: What’s the last book you read?
DC: Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins
HH: What are you currently watching on Netflix?
DC: My favorite Netflix shows are Narcos, Series of Unfortunate Events, Travelers, and Stranger Things
HH: What is your favorite subject you’ve ever studied?
DC: I always enjoyed studying various business negotiations tactics and strategies.
HH: What is something you are glad you tried but will never do again?
DC: Canoeing. It was just a very underwhelming experience.
HH: Who is your least favorite superhero?
DC: Daredevil. Meh just not very exciting to me.
HH: You’ve fallen dead (oh no!) and are now a ghost. Where do you haunt?
DC: I love the game of basketball. I’ve been playing competitively since I was 5 years old, so I would haunt the basketball courts at gyms.
HH: What’s on your bucket list?
DC: I’d like to attend a home game for of each of the 30 NBA teams.
HH: Attend a home game of each of the NBA teams, that’s really cool! How far along are you on that goal?
DC: 1 🙁
HH: You have a day off, nothing needs to be done, no plans. What are you going to do?
DC: I really enjoy live immersive entertainment, so anything to do with sports events, movies, concerts, plays, musicals.
HH: Musicals! That’s fun, what are some of your favorites?
DC: I’ve seen all of the following Musicals: Avenue Q, Seussical, West Side Story, Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Wicked, The Lion King, Hairspray.
HH: What is one question you wish someone would ask you?
DC: Can you please take this suitcase full of one million dollars?
HH: Well we can’t argue with that!
That’ll do it for our first Team Profile and Q&A! After the twists and turns that one took (Dan has broken the same leg 3 times!!!) we’re excited to learn more about the rest of our team. Thanks for stopping by and reading. If you’d like to do business with Dan and the rest of us here at Helix House, hit up our Contact Page and let’s get to work!
