Simone started with us as an intern back in the day, and now a year and change later she’s writing blogs, emails, and building client SEO profiles. Now, it’s her turn to be interviewed! She’s worked her way from up to full time status, learned a whole lot along the way and is dispensing wisdom on writing, inspiration, and the best place (or people) to haunt!
I got started in digital marketing as my major in undergrad at Arizona State. My first internship made me to fall in love with digital marketing and allowed me to have a better understanding as to what digital marketing is as a whole.
I have always loved reading and writing – those were definitely my strong suits in school growing up. When I was little I always said I wanted to be an author and write an amazing book like Harry Potter or Game of Thrones, and I guess in a way I am an author. Thanks to Helix House I got my first taste of really writing in the marketing and advertising field and completely fell in love!
To me good copy is something that entirely draws the reader in from reality. Whether this is from a social media post, a blog post, or a book each has a way to capture people.
I think something that I really enjoy about Helix House is the people I work with. Many people tell me, “Oh marketers are scammers, they only want you to buy something.” and I don’t agree with that. At Helix House everyone really cares about the clients, the quality of work we do, and cares about one another. This isn’t just an office where everyone comes in and strictly works and then leaves. We come in, get our work done, really check in on one another, and have fun team activities like bowling and Dungeon and Dragons. (I will make a come back at D&D soon!!)
My family inspires me the most. My parents have always worked extremely hard and constantly push me to do better. I’m also inspired when I see people I truly care about succeed. Knowing the time and effort they put into something for so long and seeing the joy they feel once they see results is amazing. And I’m also inspired by those who never stop learning. I love knowledge and people who love knowledge. The brain is sexy to me.
The last book I read was Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. It was amazing, but I definitely had to reread a few pages with the Old English being spoken in the book. I love fictional books like these that also give me a little bit of insight into the culture of the time it was written. I enjoy fictional, self encouragement, business, and historical fiction the most.
Can I choose 3 books to be my favorite? I think two of the best books I have ever read are 1000 Splendid Suns and Kite Runner, both written by Khaled Hosseini. Another great book that is also historical fiction along with those two is The Orphan’s Tale by Pam Jenoff. What I really love about these three books is that each completely draws the reader in making them feel as though they are really a part of the story. All three of these books had me laughing out loud and bursting into tears throughout the story.
I’m currently binge watching MindHunter and Street Food! Both of which are amazing. I needed something to watch other than Friends and The Office because I have had those on rerun for years (lol). If you’re interested in murders and food these are definitely two great shows to binge! I of course binged Stranger Things this month too… no shame here that I watched all of season 3 in two days one weekend.
Oh wow this is probably not an answer most people give, but I would definitely haunt my loved ones like family and friends! I wouldn’t haunt them in a terrifying way, but in a fun way that they know it’s me just messing around with them. Possibly occasionally moving the charger, toothbrush, maybe give them an occasional wet willy to mess around, little stuff like that that I would probably do to them while I’m alive too. This way my loved ones remember I’m still funny even dead!
Moving to Europe is definitely on my bucket list! Specifically London or Barcelona are two cities I would absolutely love to live in one day. I would also love to travel to different parts of Asia and Central and South America. There are so many beautiful places and cultures in the world that I want to see and learn about!
I guess I wish people would ask me where I get my eyebrows done. JK they are just perfect and I don’t do anything to them hahaha (please read in Valley girl voice for extra humor)!
Seriously, this one is kind of hard for me and definitely took some time for me to think about. I guess I wish people would ask me what I’m working on at work and if I really enjoy it – because I love it! Or if people ask me what I’m really passionate about. I always ask people in depth questions about their job, goals, etc. and most of the questions I’m asked are more surface questions. So, I guess I wish the same passion I have for learning about people, what they do, and if they enjoy their career path was reciprocated at times.
