Anybody who was watching bad video game movies in 1995 has shivers running down their spine right now we know it. After Warner Bros. and Newline Cinema dropped the newest Mortal Kombat flick we have had the itch to enter a tournament of our own!
Every generation, the realms of Outworld, Earthrealm, (and apparently a bunch others!) take part in Mortal Kombat, a tournament to determine which realm is superior. Each realm sends its best fighters to represent them. Let’s look at who we got on our roster.
He’s big, he’s strong, he has great reach, and he is slow. Are we talking about Shao Kahn or SEO? Exactly. Don’t expect to win using SEO in your first outing, it’ll take work. You have to put together the crucial and powerful pieces now to set up a success later. Engage with SEO if you have the time to weather the storms and set up your massive combos down the line! If you bail out too early you risk losing all the progress you’ve made. You have your keywords, rich & useful content, smart website architecture, and offsite efforts.
When these are all working in tandem you’ll land your biggest blows and score the W.
Perhaps the complete opposite from Shao Kahn is Liu Kang. This defender of Earth is fast, easy to pick up, and he packs a punch so long as you can keep his attacks stringing together. Throw out the occasional fireball and you’re well on your way to winning the match!
He’s a lot like Paid Search! Google and other platforms make Paid Search incredibly easy to pick up and start, and if you’re doing it well it leads to immediate results, but only as long as you can keep the spend flowing. Once you stop pressing the buttons, the results will stop coming.
Keep the spend up, keep the hits landing and you’ll enjoy victory!
Social Media is cool. Like paid search, it’s a pretty direct use of advertising, but unlike paid search it’s a place for so much more character to shine through as it finds the best audience, the folks clamoring to interact with the brand, like fans to a movie star.
Also like Paid Search, it’s simple to pick up, but decidedly harder to truly master. But when you do? You’ll be in the winner’s circle over and over again, engaging with fans and keeping the good vibes going.
There’s no better champion for Social Media than Johnny Cage.
Design is big. It is the brand and business when it comes to advertising like Scorpion is Mortal Kombat in their marketing. Design is going to be used across all mediums, giving power to your brand whether it appears on paid platforms, social platforms, or your own website. It has to be agile and adaptable for all those channels, to meet the need without diluting the style.
Good design is strong no matter how it’s deployed. Simple and functional or pack an incredible punch to command customers to…
“But what about traditional advertising?” we hear you cry out from the stands. We’re getting to that!
Traditional advertising is powerful in it’s own right, no doubt about it. But it’s the old champion. It doesn’t have the moves to stand up to the modern opposition. Representing traditional advertising then has to be The Great Kung Lao. Kung Lao may have won the Mortal Kombat 500 years ago, but that’s 500 years ago, not today. He can still put up a fight and net some wins, but the landscape has changed.
He does have a pretty sick razor hat though, we’ll give him that.
Alright, we have to admit, this analogy may have gotten a little away from us there at the end. But it sure was fun wasn’t it?
